Suniel Shetty | Upen Patel | Esha Deol | Sameera Reddy | Tusshar Kapoor | Paresh Rawal | Tanishaa | New Release | One Two Three

The movie has been produced by Kumar Mangat and Sunil Lulla, with collaboration of two popular film banners - Big Screen Entertainment and Eros Entertainment. Ashwani Dheer the debutant director's One Two Three is a slapstick comedy with a decent star cast. One Two Three is a story of mistaken identity of three men with the same name and the hunt for diamonds worth 10 crores.

Diamonds worth ten crores are stolen from the dangerous Don, Papa (Mukesh Tiwari). The diamonds accidentally fall in the hands of young love birds - Chandu (Upen Patel) and Chandni (Tanisha), who quickly hide them in a car. The don and his idiotic henchmen Alberts (Vrijesh Hirjee) and Pintos (Manoj Pahva) are desperately hunting for the diamonds while hot headed police officer Mayavati Chautala (Neetu Chandra) is on the prowl looking for offenders of any kind.

Enter the first Laxmi Narayan (Tusshar Kapoor). He's from a khandani mafia family and his mother prays that with a few murders under his belt, he will be settled for life. After botching up badly in his early attempts, he's got a final chance to redeem himself as a Bhai. He comes to Hotel Blue Diamond, Pondicherry because he's taken supari to bump off Papa (Mukesh Tiwari).

Enter the second Laxmi Narayan (Suniel Shetty). He's an MBA from Darjeeling and lives his professional life by following two simple rules - 1) The boss is always right. 2) If the boss is wrong, follow rule number 1. He is sent to the same hotel in Pondicherry to collect a new car for his boss from Laila (Sameera Reddy).
The third Laxmi Narayan (Paresh Rawal) is a hawker who has made so much money selling underwear on the footpath, that he has set up a lingerie factory for his son. His son sends him to Hotel Blue Diamond, Pondicherry to collect lingerie samples from upcoming designer Jiya (Esha Deol).

The 3 Laxmi Narayans happen to be in the same place at the same time.
Co-incidentally all these three approach at the hotel reception desk expecting important messages for them.
Incidentally the three Laxmi Narayans get letters and photographs meant for the other.

First Laxmi Narayan gets lingerie designer Jiya's photo and goes to kill her, only to end up as her hero.
Second Laxmi Narayan gets Papa's photo and goes to collect the car from him, only to be mistaken for a killer and gets beaten black and blue.Third Laxmi Narayan gets Laila's photo and asks her to show him her designer under garments, only to be branded as an old pervert.

Meanwhile Chandu and Chandni are determined to stop anybody from buying the car where they have hidden the diamonds.

But Laila has to sell the car to save her showroom. And Jiya has to sell her designs to save herself from lecherous Mende's clutches.

Sanjay Mishra stands out with a brilliant co

mical performance, Suniel Shetty too ends up with a good performance. Paresh Rawal is as usual good. Tusshar Kapoor is yet to work on his dialogue delivery and body language. Esha Deol hams. Tanisha is irritating and so is Upen Patel. Sameera Reddy is okay for her glamour. The rest of the supporting cast performs well.

One, Two Three is a case of not one mistaken identity, but three! A crazy bunch of people, doing the wrong things for the right reason. Supposed to be laugh riot from the beginning to the end, the movie tickles only at some instances as a completely crazy bunch of people is all-set to do wrong things for right reasons.

Saif Ali Khan | Bipasha Basu | Anil Kapoor | Sameera Reddy | Akshay Khanna | Katrina Kaif | New Release | Race

It begins with horse races, betting, setting, unfaithfulness and eliminating the jockey who's been bribed… Race is set in Durban, South Africa where the top horse owners are archrivals Saif Ali Khan and Dalip Tahil, the latter who begins to use unethical means in the horse racing circuit. Saif pays him back in the same manner. Now its quits and this matter ends here.
Ranvir (Saif Ali Khan) and Rajiv (Akshaye Khanna) are step-brothers having a huge stud farm in Durban, South Africa. They breed horses and are also the biggest bookies in the horse racing circuit. Ranvir, the elder one, a stern, stubbly millionaire is a daredevil who loves living on the edge. He dotes on his younger brother Rajiv who is an alcoholic and careless. However Rajiv is bitter because the entire estate is in his elder brother Ranvir's name. So he hatches a plan to kill him and claim the insurance money apart from the other businesses. He brings in Bipasha Basu for this heinous crime. However, it turns out that Bipasha was brought in by Ranvir much earlier.
Sophia (Katrina Kaif) is Ranvir's personal secretary. Through a background voice of Anil Kapoor we learn that this sexy employee adores her boss and loves him. Sonia (Bipasha Basu) is an upcoming Indian ramp model in Durban is Ranvir's girl friend, but through a twist of fate she gets married to younger brother Rajiv. When Sonia discovers that Rajiv is a chronic alcoholic, her world is shattered. Ranvir is disturbed as he has sacrificed his love for his younger
brother since Rajiv had promised him that he would leave alcohol once he gets married to Sonia.

After marriage, Rajiv breaks his promise, complications arise. In a planned move, Ranvir and Sonia come very close to each other. Rajiv quips - Shaadi chote bhai ke saath aur suhaag raat bade bhaiya ke saath'. This race of one-upmanship between the brothers continues till the end of the film, with there remaining just one winner.

Midway an accident occurs, purportedly to be a murder. A cop of Indian origin in South Africa Inspector Robert D'Costa (Anil Kapoor) who is assisted by his hot secretary - Mini (Sameera Reddy) gets working in this case.
Nothing is as it seems and nobody is exactly as they seem. Everybody has a motive and is operating from their world of greed. What comes now is a convoy of twists, with inside each character nurturing money-lust, ready to bend morality and there are lies. Though we have stunts here and there, what is evident all throughout is what we see is not what it is.

Akshaye Khanna just manages well using his smirk and shrugs. Though a bit overweight, he manages it aptly. Bipasha Basu carries off well enough as the Indian model and looks ravishing in the title number. Katrina Kaif mostly dressed in raunchy secretary gear, sizzles in the Zara zara song. Sameera Reddy has no scope to display neither her talent nor her hot image. We feel let down by the macho man Anil Kapoor, who enacts his part depicting the Karamchand detective style - how disappointing Its Saif Ali Khan who emerges the real stars in this 'Race'.

The film has Some good songs like "Pehli nazaar" by Atif Aslam, "Zara Zara touch me touch me" and the title track "Race". There's a twist every now and then and it's impossible to guess what the culmination would be. Race has superb style (and substance), excellent dialogues, lovely choreography, the background score which has that international feel and a top class camera work. The movie is a superb entertainer all the way. Abbas and Mustan have directed a nice thriller, which is slick and stylish. It's one of the best thriller in recent times.

Rajpal Yadav | Preeti Mehra | Ravi Jhankal | Bomie E. Dotiwala | Manoj Joshi | New Release | Hello...Hum Lallan Bol Rahe Hain

Purab Kohli | Arjan Bajwa | Mrinalini Sharma | Sameer Kochhar | Ayaz Khan | New Release | Hide N Seek

‘Hide N Seek’ Movie’s director, Shawn Arranha has said that in his directorial debut he has used a ‘claustrophobic technique’ that will leave audience with a feeling of entrapment.
"I have shot the film in a very different style. I've used a claustrophobic technique. Nobody has tried it yet in this magnitude for a film here. It has mostly been used for short films," Arranha said.
"The audience will actually feel edgy as the story will progress. They will find themselves stuck in the film. They will associate a lot with it. I am really hoping it (the technique) works and who knows it might become a trend," he added.
The movie is written and produced by Apoorva Lakhia. It is a suspense thriller filmed completely in Ahmedabad. It is being presented by Moser Baer.
"I've been with this team since the last 10 years and this is Apoorva's story merged with my style of technique... he really liked the treatment," said Arranha.
Releasing on January 8, the 105-minute thriller is about four friends portrayed by Purab Kohli, Arjan Bajwa, Ayaaz Khan and Samir Kochhar. It also has Miss India Amruta Patki as a debutante.
Arranha said, "I can't talk much about the technique or else it would give away the film. The whole feel of the film is such that the audience will feel they are stuck in a cubic box and that they can't get out of it."
It took only 27 days to finish the film.
"We started with one concept and one thought. The script and the technique, everything else were planned. Moreover the casting really worked because they (actors) pushed themselves and that is why we could finish it in only 27 days and within budget," he said.
Arranha began his career as a production assistant on Channel V and then worked as an assistant director with various production houses for five years.
Later he worked as an assistant director and chief first assistant director with movies like ‘Saathiya’, ‘Boom’, ‘Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost’, ‘Lakshya’, ‘The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey’, ‘Ek Ajnabee’, ‘Shootout At Lokhandwala’ and ‘Mission Istaanbul’.
"Audiences are getting smarter and they want something new every weekend. I am expecting audiences to accept me because it is something extremely new I am bringing. And I am going to come out with different techniques in every film I do," he added.

|Sunil Shetty | Naseeruddin Shah | Sameera Reddy | Seema Biswas | New Release | Red Alert

Anant Mahadevan, whose movie, Red Alert-The War Within on Naxalism is being premiered at International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2009 here, said that the story read by him in a newspaper inspired him to work on the subject.

"Actually I was inspired by a true story that appeared in Hindustan Times in Mumbai about a farmer who got inadvertently trapped in a group of naxalites," Mahadevan told PTI.

He said that the film starring Suniel Shetty, Naseeruddin Shah, Sameera Reddy, Seema Biswas is a great human story to be told.

"Naxalism only happens to be a backdrop and very relevant backdrop at the moment. It was a story of a person who is affected by the moment," he explained.

Mahadevan, who has seven films as a director under his belt, stated that it was just a coincident that a film on Naxalism was produced when the movement is at its height in the country.

"The movement is suddenly in uprising again. It had died down in between. It's a 40-year old problem and now everyone is running after it," he quipped adding that he is not the sympathiser of the issue but has reported it through the film.

"There are two sides to the coin. If you see how the whole thing started, it definitely began because of the apathy of the government towards the people who were denied a lot of rights but when the uprising started, it started from rich middle class than it got picked up by the leaders," he explained.

Speaking about his choice of Suniel Shetty as a lead actor who played the role of Narsimha, Mahadevan said that it was looks that actually mattered. "He looked like Andhra Pradesh farmer and he is from the South too, so half my battle in casting was over," he explained.

The director felt that being a human story anybody who is moved by the film and moved by issue would surely like to watch the film whether he is in the city or small towns.

He said that the censor board did not clipped a single frame from the movie before giving it `A' certificate.

"It's an honest film. I have not made the film which is catering to typical Hindi film formula. It's a very-very far remote from that. This is very uncompromising film," he added.

John Cusack | Amanda Peet | New Release | 2012

One of our readers, Dr. Strangefist was able to track down the first big spec script that Sony won in a bidding war after the writer's strike. The budget is rumored to be close to $200 million and already has John Cusack and Amanda Peet cast in lead roles. The story blends the idea of the Mayan calendar, which predicts the world ending in 2012, with natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, typhoons and glaciers plaguing the planet and a large cast of characters dealing with the mayhem. So here we have 2012, the latest magnum opus from disaster enthusiast Roland Emmerich. Hot on the heals of the disappointing prehistoric epic 10,000 BC, 2012 is a return to what Emmerich ostensibly does best – mass destruction. The hook this time around is the apocalypse itself; more specifically, the year of the title, which marks the end of the Mayan calendar and which many believe will be the end of the world. With the date rapidly approaching, the 2012 apocalypse theory has been a bit of a hot topic in recent years, and there has been rampant speculation been several books written on the subject. Mr. Emmerich likely saw in the theory a concept ripe for use in a big budget disaster movie. After all, the actual end of the world as we know it would surely make for the disaster movie to end all disaster movies. So does it actually live up to the promise of the concept? Things get rolling in the near(er) future of 2009, as an American scientist named PROFESSOR WEST rushes to a research facility in India, where a colleague named SATNAM has made a mysterious but alarming discovery: it seems that there have been usually severe storms on the surface of the sun, which are having a grave effect on earth. Professor West contacts his friend ADRIAN HELMSLEY, a young scientific advisor to the president, and informs him of the ominous developments. Helmsley attempts to brief U.S. PRESIDENT WILSON on Satnam’s findings, but is stopped by pompous White House chief of staff ANHEUSER, who has it out for Helmsley. From here, things move forward to 2010. By this time President Wilson is aware of what is happening, and calls a private meeting with seven other prominent world leaders at the G8 summit in Spain. What he has to tell them is that the world’s top scientists have confirmed that the world will soon come to an end. Meanwhile, in Tibet, the Chinese military displaces several villages and begins working on what is supposedly a massive dam-building project, Things jump forward another year to 2011 as more mysterious events unfold; a WEALTHY SAUDI discusses an enigmatic dossier and one billion dollar transaction with an MI-6 AGENT, and a group known as the World Heritage Foundation, headed by President Wilson’s daughter LAURA, is replacing priceless works of art such as the Mona Lisa with replicas and taking the originals to storage facility in the Alps for safekeeping. Finally we reach the titular year 2012. By now, signs of impending doom have been steadily accumulating. The west coast is beset with so-called “mini quakes,” and fissures randomly appear in the earth. Nevertheless, people are going about their daily lives as usual, oblivious to the doom in store. We are introduced to JACKSON CURTIS, chauffer and aspiring novelist, who is rushing to pick up his two young children LILLY and NOAH from ex-wife KATE’S house in Los Angeles so he can take them on a camping trip in Yellowstone National Park. After a brief run-in with Kate’s standard issue new man, Porshe-driving plastic surgeon GORDON, the sort of happy trio is off on their camping adventure. Next we meet elderly jazz musician HARRY, conveniently enough the father of Adrian Helmsley, as he boards a cruise ship in San Fransisco to provide the onboard entertainment. As he tries in vain to convince bandmate TONY to contact his estranged son in Japan, the ship is suddenly rocked by an unexpected swell in the ocean. Back in Washington, Laura Wilson receives a call from a distraught museum director in France, who has just enough time to inform her that the World Heritage Foundation is a sham before his car explodes. It seems that he learned too much about the Foundation’s real purpose and had to be silenced. Laura is horrified to discover that she has been working for a front, and is further incensed when she realizes that both Adrian and her father knew what was really going on and didn’t tell her. Meanwhile, Jackson and the kids arrive at Yellowstone to discover that the military and teams of government scientists, led by Adrian Helmsley, have taken over sections of the park for reasons they cannot fully reveal. Jackson also encounters crackpot radio host CHARLIE FROST, who believes that all signs point to a major catastrophic event beginning in California, spreading to Yellowstone, and eventually destroying the whole world. Jackson is understandably dubious, but back in Los Angeles the previously small fissures become massive, yawning cracks in the earth. It appears that things are progressing faster than anyone anticipated, and we get our first inkling of what it is that world leaders are planning to do about it; they, along with select wealthy elite from across the globe, will board specially built ships that can weather nature’s wrath. Everyone else will be left to perish and the people from the ships will be left to rebuild civilization and repopulate the planet. Basically, Noah’s Ark for the new millennium. Gordon and Kate narrowly avoid dying in a crevase in Los Angeles, and Jackson and the children rush back to find them. They arrive just in time to pick them up and escape as earthquakes ravage the city. Against all logic they return to Yellowstone to track down Charlie, who Jackson realizes was not as much of a crackpot as he initially thought, and who may be able to help them survive the rapidly approaching doomsday. Once again their timing is impeccable, as they reach the park just as it is turning into the world’s biggest active volcano. Our motley but determined band of protagonists once again narrowly escapes impending death, this time armed with details about the Arks and a map to their location. What follows is a race against time, earthquakes, dust clouds, and tsunamis as the various groups of characters make their ways across the globe (remember the displaced villagers building the dam in Tibet? Well, guess what they were really building) to try and be among the lucky few who are spared as the earth gets ready to flood Old Testament style. As it turns out, the answer to the question posed in the introductory paragraph is a resounding NO. Who knew the end of the world could be so predictable? This is an almost completely by-the-numbers disaster movie, featuring all the requisite dubious science, silly and implausible set-pieces, narrative clichés, broad, one-dimensional characters, and heavy handed attempts at emotion and morals that one would expect from the genre. Aside from the idea of the Arks there is really no aspect of this film that we haven’t already seen in dozens of other action, sci-fi, and disaster blockbusters. It is so steeped in predictability, ridiculousness, and cliché that it borders on self-parody. In the tradition of previous Emmerich blockbusters such as ID4 and The Day After Tomorrow, the obligatory action and destruction scenes are particularly bad offenders in this regard, featuring characters impossibly running away from massive explosions, dust clouds, and bizarrely personified cracks in the earth. The script barely even hints at the details or origins of any of the real theories about 2012, suggesting that the association is mainly here just to cash in on a trend. Instead, Emmerich and co-writers Harold Kloser and Matt Charman shoehorn in several brief but glaringly awkward attempts at political commentary and even what could be construed by some as a few baffling jabs at religion. And of course everything leads to an unbearably neat and happy ending, despite the fact that the film is about the vast majority of the world’s population being wiped out. It would have been great if Emmerich & Co could have injected some new life into this tired genre, but unfortunately, and not that surprisingly, all they are giving us here is more of the same.

Priyanka Chopra | Uday Chopra | New Release | Pyaar Impossible

Days after Yash Raj Films and composers Salim-Sulaiman came up with the soundtrack of Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year arrives the music album of Pyaar Impossible. In fact this may well be the first for both the production house as well as the composer duo who have seen some work of theirs arriving in such quick succession. Given the fact that the film is titled Pyaar Impossible, has a glossy teenage feel to it and bears a vibrant look, one expects a happy soundtrack from the five songs, each of which is written by Anvita Dutt Guptan.

Alisha (Priyanka Chopra) is one of those girls who has it all – beautiful, charming, popular, and the one all the men love. Abhay (Uday Chopra), is a dorky geek, who is one among her many admirers.Abhay loves her knowing that he can never expect to get a woman like Alisha. It’s impossible. Or is it?

Write your own music review of Pyaar Impossible
Anushka Manchanda is so effective in the way she begins 'Alisha' that one can almost sense Priyanka Chopra to be behind the mike. There is this husky feel about her rendition which brings in a certain attitude to the entire 5 minutes track. In fact Anushka is quite good in this Westernised track (later also appearing in a 'remix version') where she not just changes the pitch a couple of times but also brings in a different tone to her voice. Moreover, Salim Merchant too does a good job in coming behind the mike intermittently and brings on the key words Pyaar Impossible. A good situational track that could well have been a Vishal-Shekhar composition.

Soon after, Vishal Dadlani does come into picture though as he sings the title song 'Pyaar Impossible'. The track pretty much establishes the mood of the album and confirms then and there that the film's narrative is designed as a modern day Western romcom musical. Dominique Cerejo takes the lead in this relatively softer number which has a

conversational feel to it. Expect some good picturisation here for this yet another Western outing that is also accompanied by a 'remix version'.

The best of the lot comes a little later though in the form of 'You And Me' which has a Salim-Sulaiman stamp all over it. The kind of rhythmic mushy track that could have fitted into any contemporary urban love story, 'You And Me' is taken to a different level mainly due to the way it is arranged. Neha Bhasin and Benny Dayal come together for this track, which surprisingly doesn't appear in a remix version even though it really deserved so, and is good enough to be played in clubs and lounges. Entertaining.

However, by the time '10 On 10' comes, it is firmly established that Pyaar Impossible is a girlie album in entirety, especially in the way Mahua Kamath and Anushka Manchanda come together to croon the number. One is instantly reminded of the prom night situations that are so much in vogue in Hollywood's teenage romcom films/TV serials. Remember the likes of 'Hannah Montana'? This one should look and sound good on screen. Towards the later stages of the song, Naresh Kamath croons a couple of lines but eventually '10 on 10' belongs to the girls.

Finally comes 'Ek Thi Ladki' which has a story telling setting to it, something which is on the same lines as Princess Diaries. Newcomer Rishika Sawant tells the story of this girl meeting a guy who falls heads over heels in love with her. The setting reminds one of Uday Chopra's last romcom outing where the title song 'Neil N Nikki' had a similar feel to it. Though that song is heard even till date due to it's rhythmic appeal and the sound that stuck on for years, the same can't be said about 'Ek Thi Ladki' which basically sticks to the situation in the film than boasting of an everlasting appeal.

Due to its situational feel, one can't be expecting mega popularity for the album here. However, if one understands the intent of the album, the songs have been pretty much made to facilitate the album's narrative rather than being chartbusters that would get audiences in theaters. In this aspect, Salim-Sulaiman create a good situational album that may well drive the narrative rather than just fitting into it.

Amir Khan | Asin | jia khan | New Release | Ghajini

Ghajini opens with Sunita, who is investigating case of Sanjay Singhania, who is a notable city businessman, reported to be suffering from amnesia in spite of being denied by her professor. Sanjay is introduced as he's murdering another man and takes the picture of the corpse. The amnesia he has wipes his memory out every 15 minutes. Sanjay uses a system of photographs, notes, and tattoos on his body to recover his memory after each cycle.

Every morning, Sanjay is reminded by a tattoo on his body that "Kalpana was killed", and it is revealed that Sanjay is ultimately out to avenge Kalpana, and that he is systematically killing the people who were responsible for Kalpana's death. His main target, evidenced by several notes and tattoos, is "Ghajini". It is eventually revealed that Ghajini is a notable social personality in the city. Mumbai Police Inpsector Fawaz is on the case of the serial murders. He tracks Sanjay down to his flat and attacks and disables him.

Through a 2005 diary found in the room, Fawaz learns Sanjay Singhania is the scion of a reputed business house that owns the Air Voice mobile telephone company. In the course of his business, Sanjay sends his men to meet Kalpana, a struggling actor/model, about putting up an Air Voice billboard above her apartment. The owner of Kalpana's modeling/advertising firm misinterprets this as a romantic advance, and encourages Kalpana to accept the advance.

Kalpana plays as Sanjay's girlfriend. He eventually meets Kalpana, but pretends to be Sachin, a simple fellow from a small town. Kalpana lands him some modeling gigs. They fall in love, and on the New Year's eve, Sanjay proposes. She requests some time to. Sanjay decides that if she accepts, he will tell her who he really is, but if she declines, he'll quietly back off with no harm done. He finally tracks down Ghajini to a college function where Ghajini is the guest of honor. Sanjay takes some pictures of Ghajini and decides to kill him.

Later that evening, Sanjay attacks and kills one of Ghajini's goons in the parking lot. The dying goon informs Ghajini that Sanjay is out to kill Ghajini. Ghajini is baffled about the identity of the person and decides to eliminate all his enemies. In the meantime, Sunita who he met at the party visits Sanjay's flat and finds detective Fawaz, beaten and bound. She also finds that Ghajini is Sanjay's target. Fawaz informs her that Sanjay is a known serial murderer. Sunita finds the two diaries and frees Fawaz. Sanjay arrives suddenly and in the ensuing chase, Fawaz is fatally hit by a bus, and Sunita barely escapes the crazed Sanjay.

Believing Ghajini is in danger, she informs him that it is Sanjay who is after him. With this named target, Ghajini arrives at Sanjay's flat and destroys all the photographs and notes, and tattooes over Sanjay's existing tattoos. Satisfied that he has neutralized Sanjay by wiping out any trace that connects back to him, Ghajini leaves.

Meanwhile, back in her dorm, Sunita reads the 2006 diary ,which revealed that Kalpana had accepted Sanjay's proposal and ends abruptly. Sunita investigates further, and discovers that at some point in 2006, Kalpana had rescued 25 girls from a prostitution racket. The girls named Ghajini as the ringleader of the racket. In retaliation, he murdered two of these girls, and went in search of Kalpana. Ghajini and his goons managed to break into Kalpana's apartment and waited for her return.

Coincidentally, Sanjay also arrived there to meet Kalpana. Her last word to him was "Ghajini." Ghajini kills Kalpana and hits Sanjay in the head leading to his memory loss. Sunita, now aware of the truth, finds Sanjay and tells him the truth. Arriving at Ghajini's lair in downtown Mumbai, Sanjay systematically and brutally kills all of Ghajini's henchmen and chases down Ghajini. He is about to kill Ghajini when his memory loss cycle kicks in. Ghajini takes this opportunity to stab Sanjay. He begins to taunt Sanjay with the grisly tale of how he murdered Kalpana. Sanjay, angered by this devastating memory takes out the sharp pole in his stomach and throws it at Ghajini, which knocks him to the floor. Sanjay overpowers Ghajini after a short fight and kills him in the same way Kalpana was killed. The film ends with Sanjay, still suffering from the amnesia, volunteering at an orphange. Sunita gives him a small gift, a memorabilia containing both of their footprints literally to remind him of his fond association with Kalpana
